About Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a little Island in the Southeast Asia. Within the area of 65,525 sq km there are so many extraordinary places to explore and many Unesco World heritage Sites packed into such a small area. Sri Lanka is 435km long and it is 240km at its widest point. Most of the island is low-lying and flat but the south central part is mountainous with nine peaks over 2,133m (7,000ft) high. Tourists often return there on holiday year after year as they can discover more and more of it. Sri Lanka was given different names in the past, for example Taprobane, Serendib and Ceylon. Ceylon Tea has always been a popular drink all over the world.

When you are ready to escape to the tropical climate of the coast and lowlands, Sri Lanka is one of the best choices among the tourists. There are dazzlingly white sandy beaches around the Island so that no matter where you go, you will be near a sandy gem. You can surf and sunbathe in world-class places without world-class crowds and costs.

It’s not only the Island scenic beauty that is so enchanting, there are ancient ruins and religious shrines (the Cultural Triangle), national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, charming traditional buildings, a pastoral way of life contrasting with the hubbub of the towns and cities, brilliant beaches and a salubrious climate.

The country is also well known for its cuisine as well, which has been shaped by many historical and cultural influences and other factors. The most common elements in Sri Lankan cousine are rice, coconut and spices.

The best way to explore the island is with a chauffeur-guide either on a standard tour or following an itinerary which BH Sri Lanka Tours can arrange to include places of special interest and convenient accommodation.
